Origin
The Echeveria serana is a succulent originally from Mexico. In the wild, this plant grows in rocky areas with a dry climate. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family and is a typical representative of dry, desert-like habitats.
Characteristics
Echeveria serana is known for its attractive leaf rosettes, which can be green, grey or purple in colour. The leaves are fuzzy and have a waxy coating to limit water loss. The plant grows in a compact shape and produces bright orange flowers in the spring and summer.
Care
Echeveria serana requires little maintenance. As a desert plant, it prefers well-drained soils and full sun, but will also grow in partial shade. Watering needs to be moderate - the plant needs a thorough soaking, but only once the soil is completely dry. During the winter months, less water is needed than in the growing seasons. Overwatering can lead to rot and fungal diseases. The plant does not require any special fertilising. Repotting is recommended once a year in the spring, to stimulate growth and improve aeration.
