DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Mammillaria gracilis, also known as the 'slender nipple cactus', originally comes from Mexico. It grows there in the semi-arid regions, where it has adapted to the dry and challenging climatic conditions. The cactus belongs to the Cactaceae family, and is one of the most popular species in the Mammillaria genus, which includes more than 200 different species.

Characteristics
The Mammillaria gracilis is a small cactus, which usually reaches a diameter of less than ten centimetres. The stems consist of numerous cylindrical protrusions, the so-called 'nipples', which are covered with slender spines. The rosette shape is typical for this species. During the flowering period, usually in the spring and summer, the Mammillaria gracilis produces cream-coloured to yellow flowers that form a strong contrast with the green stems.

Care
When caring for the Mammillaria gracilis, one should take into account the plant's natural habitat. The cactus loves a lot of sunlight, so place it in a bright, sunny spot. In the summer, it can also be kept outside. Watering should be done sparingly, as too much water can lead to root rot. During the winter months, when the plant is dormant, watering should be reduced. A well-draining soil is essential for this cactus, to remove excess water and prevent root rot.
