Origin
The Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Pfitzeriana Glauca', better known as the Blue Juniper, originates from Asia and North America. It is a hybrid species, obtained from crossing two other juniper species. This plant was developed by tree nurseries to enhance specific characteristics, such as winter hardiness and aesthetics.
Characteristics
The Blue Juniper can be recognised by its characteristic blue-green needles and spreading growth habit. The plant usually reaches a height of between 0.5 and 1 meter, and can become up to 2 metres wide. In late spring, the plant produces small, yellow flowers, followed by small, round, black berries. The striking colour of the needles is retained throughout the year.
Care
The Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Pfitzeriana Glauca' is fairly straightforward to care for. The plant prefers full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. It is resistant to drought and generally does not need to be watered much, unless it has been dry for a prolonged period. Pruning is possible, but not necessary; the plant can be pruned throughout the year to maintain or create the desired shape. It is also good to know that this plant is generally not susceptible to pests or diseases.
