Echeveria elegans
F00001013
Origin
The Echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg' is a cross between Echeveria gibbiflora 'Metalla' and Echeveria potosina. This cross was first made by German plant breeder Richard Graessner in the 1930s. The interesting result of this cross, the 'Perle von Nurnberg', is recognised worldwide and is grown in various countries and regions. Despite its German name, the 'Perle von Nurnberg' originally comes from Mexico.
Characteristics
The 'Perle von Nurnberg' is an attractive succulent with a rosette-shaped growth pattern. The leaves are broad, pointed and have a beautiful purple-grey colour, which intensifies with sufficient sunlight. The plant tends to grow sturdy and low to the ground, but can grow up to 20 cm in length under good conditions. In the summer, the plant produces attractive, bell-shaped flowers on long stems, which colour gradient from pink to coral.
Care
The 'Perle von Nurnberg' requires a lot of sunlight, ideally at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. The soil must be very well-draining to prevent root rot and the plant requires moderate watering. The excess water must be able to drain completely. It is also important to know that the 'Perle von Nurnberg' is not cold-resistant and should be kept indoors in climates where the temperature can drop below zero degrees Celsius. It is recommended to feed the plant with a succulent fertiliser at least once a year for optimal growth.
