DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Phalaenopsis originates from the humid tropical rainforests of Asia, the Philippines, and northern Australia. The name Phalaenopsis is derived from the Greek words "Phalaina", meaning moth, and "opsis", meaning appearance. This is due to the shape of the flowers that resemble a moth.

Characteristics
Phalaenopsis orchids, also known as moth orchids, are recognizable for their wide, glossy leaves and abundant flowers. The flowers come in various colours, including white, pink, yellow, and purple, and often have a striking pattern. It is an epiphytic plant, meaning it naturally grows on trees in nature. The plant can reach an impressive height of 60 to 70 cm.

Care
For the care of the Phalaenopsis, a light position is recommended, but direct sunlight is preferably avoided. On average, the plant needs watering once a week. However, this can be less in the winter. It is important for excess water to drain away well to prevent root rot. Furthermore, the plant needs a light dosage of fertilizer every six months. The ideal temperature for the Phalaenopsis is between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
