Origin
The Soleirolia soleirolii, also known as Helxine, is a perennial plant that originates from the western regions of the Mediterranean. This area includes countries such as Italy, Spain and France. The plant grows in forests and on rocky soil, often in the shade of larger plants and trees.

Characteristics
This plant is characterised by its delicate, bright green leaves and its creeping growth habit. The leaves are small and round, and grow closely together, giving the plant a soft, moss like appearance. The plant can reach a height of about 5 to 10 centimetres, but can spread over a large area. The flowers that the Helxine produces are very small and can be white or pink.

Care
Generally, the care of the Soleirolia soleirolii is relatively straightforward. The plant prefers shady spots, but can also thrive in moderately lit places. Furthermore, the soil should be kept consistently moist, but not waterlogged, to prevent root rot. The plant can relatively withstand low temperatures but it is not frost resistant. When repotting or replanting the Soleirolia soleirolii, the soil should be well drained.
