Origin
The Hildewintera aureispina 'Cristata', better known as the Golden Spina cactus, has its origin in the Andes of Bolivia and Argentina. This unique species of cactus grows at high altitudes, thereby becoming accustomed to extreme weather conditions. This allows it to easily adapt to various climates, making it found all around the world.
Characteristics
What sets the Hildewintera aureispina 'Cristata' apart from other cactus species are its yellow-orange thorns and its peculiar wavy shape, which becomes wider at the top. The cactus has slow growth and can ultimately reach a height of 30 centimetres. In its mature phase, the cactus carries spectacular orange flowers that beautifully contrast with the yellow thorns.
Care
Caring for the Hildewintera aureispina 'Cristata' requires attention to temperature, light and humidity. When cultivating this kind of cactus, it's important that it is placed in a well-draining soil to prevent root rot. The plant can be kept both indoors and outdoors, provided there is sufficient light. During the summer months, the cactus should be watered regularly, but watering should be limited in the winter to prevent overwatering.
