Mammillaria nivosa
Product number : F00001720Origin
The Mammillaria nivosa, also known as the Woollen Nipple Cactus, originates in the dry, limestone-rich soils of the Caribbean, particularly Cuba. The plant is well-adapted to warm temperatures and little water. It can survive in both sunny and shady conditions.
Characteristics
The Mammillaria nivosa is a succulent, spherical cactus that can grow up to 15 cm high and reach a diameter of 30 cm. The plant has star-shaped, woolly-looking spikes, which form a layer to protect the plant from the fierce sun. Rings of pink or cream coloured flowers that appear in spring and summer are a distinctive characteristic of this cactus.
Care
Caring for the Mammillaria nivosa requires understanding its natural living conditions. The plant needs a well-draining soil with enough sand or grit for drainage. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent rot, the soil needs to dry between watering. In the winter, the plant needs less water and should be protected from frost. Summer temperatures are favoured, but the plant can also adapt to cooler indoor conditions as long as it gets enough light.
