Origin
The Crassula ovata 'Gandalf' is a variety of the Crassula plant species. Typically, these plants are known as succulents. The original source of this specific species lies in South African regions. The name 'Gandalf' is derived from the famous wizard from the Lord of the Rings series, because of the characteristic leaf structure which reminds of this character's pointed hat.
Characteristics
The Crassula ovata 'Gandalf' is known for its unique, pointed leaves that are tinted in a deep, glossy green. These leaves are somewhat fleshier than most leaves and have a curved shape, making them resemble a wizard’s hat. It is a compact plant that remains small and doesn’t undergo much excessive growth. In addition to the remarkable leaves, 'Gandalf' also produces small, star-shaped flowers in a pale pink shade.
Care
Generally, the care of the Crassula ovata 'Gandalf' requires little effort. The plant prefers plenty of sunlight and should be placed in a location where it receives sufficient indirect light. Watering should be limited to once every few weeks; it’s important that the soil completely dries out between waterings. The plant can thrive well in normal room temperature and requires no specific feeding regimen. Repotting annually into a larger planter helps to keep the plant healthy.
