Origin
The Coccoloba uvifera, also known as Seagrapes or Uva de Playa, has its origin in the tropical regions of America and the Caribbean. This unique plant grows in coastal areas and is frequently found on sandy beaches and in sand dunes, where it helps combat sand erosion.
Characteristics
The Coccoloba uvifera is a robust and fast-growing plant that can reach up to 8 metres in height. The plant has wide, round, and shiny leaves that provide a cooling shade. Additionally, the Coccoloba uvifera develops clusters of small white flowers, which later in the season turn into small purple edible fruits in the shape and size of grapes.
Care
The care of the Coccoloba uvifera is relatively simple, as the plant can withstand many different climate conditions. This plant prefers full sun and well-draining soil but can also survive in the shade. Although the Coccoloba uvifera requires moderate to high amounts of water, it is also tolerant to drought. This plant requires little pruning and has no special nutrient needs.
