DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Phillyrea angustifolia is an evergreen shrub, originating from the Mediterranean. This plant is particularly found in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Over the centuries, it has also been introduced in other parts of the world. This species is also referred to as Narrow-leaved Phillyrea.

Characteristics
Characteristic for the Phillyrea angustifolia are the narrow, glossy dark green leaves. These are opposite and lanceolate. In springtime, the shrub carries small, white flowers, which are followed by black or purple coloured berries in the autumn. The shrub can reach up to five meters in height, although this is exceptional.

Care
The Phillyrea angustifolia is a resilient and easy to maintain plant. It prefers full sun to partial shade and a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of drought and can adapt to different soil types. Although the plant is hardy, young plants are susceptible to frost damage and therefore need to be protected extra. Sprinkling is not recommended. Pruning can take place in the spring or early summer to maintain the shape.
