Origin
The Calathea Vittata originally hails from Central and South America, specifically from the tropical rainforests of Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Over time, the plant adapted to the humid and dark environment under the rainforest's canopy.
Characteristics
The Calathea Vittata is recognisable by its slender, oblong leaves which feature a unique pattern of white stripes. Unlike most Calatheas which display a variety of colours, the Vittata only contains green and white hues, distinguishing it from its species peers. The leaves have a velvety texture and the plant can reach heights between 60 and 80 centimetres.
Care
The Calathea Vittata requires a high humidity and thrives best in indirect light. The plant prefers a moist soil but doesn't deal well with waterlogging, thus good drainage is essential. The plant favours a stable temperature between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius and should be sheltered from draughts and abrupt temperature changes. A regular dose of nutrient during the growing period is recommended to promote the plant's health.
