Origin
The Fragaria x ananassa 'Elsanta' is a cultivar of the garden strawberry originally developed in the Netherlands. The 'Elsanta' was bred in the 1970s and has since then been spread worldwide due to the excellent characteristics of this strawberry variety.

Characteristics
The 'Elsanta' is known for its high production of medium to large, shiny red fruits. The strawberries have a uniform conical shape and a strong, sweet taste. Additionally, the plant is resistant to a number of diseases, but it is sensitive to verticillium, a soil fungus that causes wilt disease.

Care
The Fragaria x ananassa 'Elsanta' grows best in well-drained, humus-rich soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. The plant requires full sun and regular watering, but avoid waterlogging as this can cause rot and mould. To promote good fruit setting, the plant can be fed regularly with a high potassium fertiliser from early spring.
