Archontophoenix alexandrae
Stem
4ARALRS01
Origin
The Archontophoenix alexandrae, better known as the king palm, has its origin in the eastern and northern parts of Australia. It naturally thrives in rainforests and on the edges of streams.
Characteristics
The distinctive characteristics of the Archontophoenix alexandrae are the elegant, feathery, green leaves and the upright growth pattern that can reach up to 30 metres high. The flowers this plant produces are purple, small, and appear in clusters, followed by small, bright red fruits. The smooth, light grey trunk displays rings from previous leaf growth.
Care
The king palm needs a warm and humid climate to grow well. It prefers well-drained, light, and humus-rich soil. While young plants require partial shade, mature specimens require full sun. Regarding irrigation, it is important to keep the ground continuously moist but definitely not too wet, to prevent root rot.
