Origin
The Alocasia 'Low Rider', also known as the 'Elephant Ear', originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo. Alocasia species belong to the family of Araceae, or the Arum family, and can be found in the wild in moist, shady areas.

Characteristics
The Alocasia 'Low Rider' is a striking indoor plant due to its dark, glossy leaves which can become particularly large, as the name 'Elephant Ear' suggests. This unique plant is characterised by the distinct veins on the leaves that form an interesting pattern. The stems are sturdy and the leaves point upwards, giving the plant a stately appearance.

Care
The care of the Alocasia 'Low Rider' requires attention to the conditions of its natural habitat. The plant thrives in high humidity and when placed indoors, it's best in bright, indirect sunlight. The soil needs to be well-draining to prevent root rot and regular watering is essential, although overwatering can be damaging. Finally, the Alocasia 'Low Rider' is not hardy and should not be exposed to temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.
