Origin
The Cereus peruvianus 'Florida', also known as the Peruvian Apple Cactus, originally hails from South America. Here, the cactus grows in dry, rocky areas, at high altitudes of up to 2,500 metres. These conditions have contributed to the creation of the cactus that we recognise and cherish today.
Characteristics
The Cereus peruvianus 'Florida' can be recognised by its characteristic cylindrical, green trunks, which can form multiple branches. This species of cactus can grow up to 10 metres high. The plant produces white flowers, which mainly open at night and give off a delicate fragrance. These flowers are followed by ovate, edible fruits, which can be either red or yellow.
Care
Taking care of the Cereus peruvianus 'Florida' means these cactuses prefer a sunny location with well-draining soil. During the growing season they need regular watering, but the ground must dry out completely between watering sessions. It's also important to know that they need to be kept cool in winter, at a temperature between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. They require light pruning at least once a year to maintain their natural shape.
