Origin
The Rhododendron (Simsii Grp) Hellmut Vogel mix is a variant of the Rhododendron family, native to the temperate regions of Asia, North America, and Europe. This plant species has been named after Hellmut Vogel, a notable German breeder of Rhododendrons.
Characteristics
The Hellmut Vogel mix distinguishes itself through its vibrant mix of colours: from deep pink, white to soft peach. The flowers are large and clustered, blooming profusely in late spring. This variant grows as a compact, bushy shrub and can reach a height of about 1 metre. The dark green, glossy leaves provide a nice contrast with the colourful blossom.
Care
Although the Rhododendron (Simsii Grp) Hellmut Vogel mix is reasonably easy to maintain, it does require some care for optimum growth and flowering. The plant prefers a spot in partial shade with a well-drained, acidic soil. Regular watering is necessary, especially during dry periods, but waterlogging must be avoided. Pruning is not necessary unless the shrub becomes too large. Annual fertilisation with special Rhododendron fertiliser ensures healthy growth and prolific flowering.
