Origin
The Pilea Ellen, a rare species from the Urticaceae family, originates from China. The plant mainly grows in forested areas. It has a long botanical history and is also known as the Chinese Money Plant. Interestingly, in China, the plant is symbolic of wealth and prosperity.
Characteristics
The Pilea Ellen is distinguished by its round, light green leaves that seem to grow on small stems. The leaves are glossy and have a distinctive vein structure, giving the plant an ornamental appearance. The plant grows in a bush-like form and can reach a height of around 30 centimetres. The flowering of the Pilea Ellen is quite inconspicuous with small yellow flowers.
Care
The care of the Pilea Ellen is relatively simple. The plant prefers a bright location, but direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn. The plant needs average water and it is important that the soil does not completely dry out between watering sessions. During the winter months, the amount of water can be reduced. Temperature is also important; the Pilea Ellen likes a stable indoor climate with temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.
