Origin
The Skimmia japonica White Globe has its roots in East Asia, where it is primarily found in forests and mountain landscapes. It is a species from the Rutaceae family, which originates directly from Japan.
Characteristics
As a variety of the Skimmia japonica, the White Globe has characteristic evergreen leaves and clusters of white flowers which form in late winter or early spring. The plant has a compact shape and typically reaches a height and width of 1 to 1.5 metres. Interestingly, the White Globe can have both female and male flowers on one plant, which means it can produce both berries and pollinate flowers.
Care
In terms of care, the Skimmia japonica White Globe prefers semi-shade and rich, well-drained soil. Although the White Globe is hardy and drought tolerant, it performs better with regular watering during prolonged dry periods. The plant generally requires little maintenance, but an annual pruning can stimulate growth and ensure denser foliage.
