Origin
The Juniperus rigida, also known as the Temple Juniper, has its origin in East Asia. This evergreen shrub is predominantly found in Japan, Korea, and the eastern parts of Russia. Here, the plant grows on sandy soils, rocky slopes, and in open forests.

Characteristics
Distinctive characteristics of the Juniperus rigida include the rigid, pointed needles that are arranged in threes. The needles have a bluish-green to greyish-green hue and can reach up to 2 centimetres in length. The plant produces blue, berry-like cones that are attractive to birds. Generally speaking, the shrub can grow up to 6 metres tall, with branches spreading in an almost horizontal direction.

Care
The Juniperus rigida requires little maintenance. The plant tolerates drought well and prefers well-draining soil. Full sun is optimal for growth, but it can also survive in partial shade. It is crucial to only water the plant when the topsoil is dry, as overwatering can cause root rot. Pruning can be carried out to maintain shape, but it is not a requirement.
