Origin
The Phalaenopsis Formidablo is a popular species within the Phalaenopsis family, originally indigenous to Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Ocean islands. This family of orchids is one of the largest within the plant kingdom and is named after the Greek word 'phalaina', which means moth, due to its resemblance to this species. The Formidablo stands out due to its specific growth conditions and unique characteristics.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Formidablo is renowned for its brightly coloured, striped flowers that can bloom throughout the year. The flowers vary in colour, usually with pink or yellow hues, with dark stripes providing a striking contrast. The plant has a sturdy and upright stem on which the flowers grow, and the characteristic leaf rosette at the base of the plant. The height of the mature plant typically ranges between 60 and 70 cm.
Care
For optimal growth and flowering, the Phalaenopsis Formidablo requires high humidity, similar to its original tropical environment. The plant prefers a light position, but direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorch. As for watering, the Formidablo requires the potting soil to lightly dry out between watering cycles, similar to many other orchid species. Additionally, fertilisation with special orchid food is recommended for healthy growth and flowering.
