Origin
The Stipa tenuifolia 'Ponytails', also known as Mexican Feather Grass, originates from the dry grasslands and open forests of Western North America and Mexico. It is commonly found in the prairie areas of New Mexico and Texas and is adapted to the extreme climate of these regions.
Characteristics
The Stipa tenuifolia 'Ponytails' is a slow-growing perennial that is known for its delicate and elegant appearance. The plant reaches a height of about 60 cm and has very thin, thread-like, light green leaves that provide a soft, fluffy appearance. It is a hardy species that produces beautiful, silver spikes in late spring and early summer.
Care
Stipa tenuifolia 'Ponytails' has a preference for full sun and well-drained soil. It is a drought-tolerant plant that requires little water, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping or dry gardens. As it is a hardy plant, there is no need for overwintering protection. Although the self-seeding ability of this plant is limited, periodic pruning may be required to maintain a tidy and compact form.
