Origin
The Juniperus communis 'Arnold', commonly known as the Common Juniper, originally hails from northern Europe and Asia. This plant belongs to the cypress family and can be found in most regions around the world. It has a history of use in traditional medicine in various countries.

Characteristics
The Juniperus communis 'Arnold' is an evergreen shrub with an upright growth habit. The shrub can reach a height of three to four metres and has a width of around two metres. The scales on the branches are generally sharp. The plant produces blue-black berries, which are about a centimetre in size and carry a waxy layer. The plant has sharp, needle-like leaves and the young branches are quite dark in colour.

Care
The Juniperus communis 'Arnold' requires minimal care, as it is a robust and resilient shrub. It prefers a sunny to semi-shady location, with well-draining soil. The shrub has good resistance to drought and can withstand temperatures up to -30 °C. Pruning is not necessary, but if needed, it is best done in late spring or early summer. Use of a general fertiliser in the spring can promote the growth and health of the shrub.
