Origin
The Euonymus fortunei, also known as the Wintercreeper, originally comes from East Asia. It grows in countries such as China, Korea and the Philippines. The plant is named after Robert Fortune, a Scottish botanist who brought this plant species to Europe in the 19th century.
Characteristics
The Euonymus fortunei is a hardy, evergreen plant species. It has shiny, elliptically shaped leaves that range in colour from dark green to yellow-green. In the winter months, these leaves can take on a beautiful red hue. The plant has small, inconspicuous flowers and produces small, non-edible fruits.
Care
The Euonymus fortunei requires relatively little care. The plant thrives well in both full sun and partial shade and places few demands on the soil. Pruning is usually not necessary, unless the plant becomes too large for its surroundings. Although the plant tolerates drought well, regular watering is recommended during prolonged dry periods.
