Origin
The Armeria maritima Vesuvius, also known by the name Sea Pink Vesuvius, has its origin in the coastal areas of the northern hemisphere. This also includes the Dutch and Belgian coasts, where the plant naturally occurs. The name Vesuvius is derived from the famous Italian volcano because of the striking red-orange colour of the flower.

Characteristics
The Armeria maritima Vesuvius is a perennial plant known for its spherical dark pink to almost red flowers. The flowers appear from late spring to early summer on tall growing stems from a base of narrow, grey-green leaves. The plant has a low growth habit making it highly suitable for rock gardens or for embellishing a wall. The maximum height of the plant is about 15 to 20cm.

Care
This species grows best in well-draining, moderately fertile soil that is not too wet. Although the plant is resistant to salt and wind, it performs best in full sun or partial shade. It is an easy plant to care for and relatively disease and pest resistant. For optimal flowering, it is recommended to regularly remove the dead flowers.
