Origin
The Mandevilla Rio Grande Red, also known as Dipladenia, is a plant species that originally hails from South America. More specifically, it originates from the tropical regions of Brazil. Due to the warm climate in these areas, the plant thrives in temperatures that do not fall below 10 degrees Celsius.
Characteristics
The Mandevilla Rio Grande Red is particularly known for its remarkable and striking flowers. They are large in size and have a vibrant red colour with a yellow centre. The flowers appear in late spring and continue to bloom until early autumn. The plant is characterised by its lush leaves that have a shiny and leathery texture, and it can grow up to three metres high.
Care
Caring for a Mandevilla Rio Grande Red requires a certain level of effort. It needs plenty of light, but also protection from the direct midday sun. During the growing season, the plant should be watered regularly, but the soil should not be continuously wet, as the roots are sensitive to overwatering. In the winter, the water supply should be reduced. It prefers a well-draining soil and during the blooming period, the plant benefits from a monthly feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
