Cereus peruvianus 'Monstrosus'

Origin
The Agave macroacantha originally comes from Mexico, where it grows mainly in the states of Oaxaca and Puebla. The plant thrives in an environment with an extreme climate, specifically high temperatures and little rainfall. In Mexico, the plant is often referred to as the 'Black-Spined Agave'.
Characteristics
The Agave macroacantha is characterised by its long, sword-shaped leaves that form a virtually symmetrical rosette. These leaves are stiff and leather-like, with a deep green colour and a light grey wax coating. The black, sharp spines on the edges of the leaves and the long protruding spine at the end of the leaf are particularly noteworthy. A grand flowering stem grows from this dense rosette, bearing red to purple flowers.
Care
The Agave macroacantha requires little care, making it a popular plant for keeping indoors or in the garden. The plant largely provides itself with water by catching rain in its rosette. It's important to place the plant in direct sunlight. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. The plant is frost-resistant, but it's advisable to cover the plant or bring it inside during frosty conditions.
