Origin
The Calathea 'Makoyana', also known as the peacock plant, originates from South America, particularly from the rainforest of Brazil. It belongs to the family of Marantaceae. This family is primarily found in the humid, tropical areas of South America.

Characteristics
The Calathea 'Makoyana' is known for its distinct and striking leaves. These leaves have a green colour on the upper side and a purple colour on the underside. The plant has oval, pointed leaves adorned with a pattern of green and cream spots, reminiscent of the pattern of a peacock feather. In addition, the plant can reach a height of up to 60 centimetres.

Care
The Calathea 'Makoyana' requires specific care to be able to thrive. It prefers a light location, but not in direct sunlight, as this could scorch the foliage. The plant needs high humidity and should be watered regularly, but is sensitive to overwatering. It is recommended to water the plant weekly in the summer and bi-weekly in the winter. The ideal room temperature for the plant is between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius.
