Origin
The Chamaedorea metallica, also known as the Metallic Palm, originates from Central and South America. The plant is predominantly found in the tropical rainforests of Mexico and Guatemala. Here it grows in the understorey, protected by the leaf canopy of larger trees.
Characteristics
The Chamaedorea metallica is a low-maintenance palm species that can grow up to a meter high. It has umbrella-shaped leaves that have a unique metallic sheen, hence the name 'Metallica'. The leaves are broad and have a deep green colour. During its flowering period, the plant produces small orange flowers that later turn into black fruits.
Care
The Chamaedorea metallica is a shade-loving plant and does not do well in direct sunlight. This makes it an excellent choice for indoor planting. The plant requires a stable temperature and high humidity to grow successfully. As for watering, it is important to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid water saturation to prevent root rot.
