Origin
The Philodendron 'Red Congo' traces its roots back to South America, specifically from the humid, tropical rainforests. It belongs to the Araceae family and is also referred to as 'Philodendron Congo Rojo'. In the wild, this plant can reach enormous proportions, but growth remains limited within domestic environments.

Characteristics
The Philodendron 'Red Congo' is a striking and distinctive houseplant due to its coarsely lobed leaves, which are of an intense, deep red colour when they are young and age to a dark green shade. The stems of this plant can have a dramatic red hue, which provides a wonderful contrast. This species grows in an upward-facing form, making it suitable for both hanging baskets and floor planters.

Care
The Philodendron 'Red Congo' thrives best in a location with indirect light, but can also survive in lighter shade. Generally, it is an easy plant to care for and requires little maintenance. Moderate watering is recommended, allowing the soil to dry out slightly in between watering. Since this plant originally comes from a tropical climate, it prefers a high humidity, but it can also thrive in drier conditions. Regularly wiping the leaves is recommended to remove dust and keep the plant healthy.
