Origin
The Nephrolepis biserrata 'Macho', also known as the Macho fern, has its origin in the subtropical and tropical regions of the world, including parts of North America, Africa and Asia. The plant is a member of the Nephrolepidaceae family and is often found in the wild in humid forests and swamps.
Characteristics
Characteristic of this evergreen perennial are the long, arched and double feathered leaves, which can reach up to 1 meter in length. The colour of the leaves ranges from light green to dark green, depending on the light intensity in which the plant grows. The Nephrolepis biserrata 'Macho' is known for its robust nature and rapid growth rate, forming dense clusters of leaves which give a lush appearance.
Care
The Macho fern requires an environment with high humidity, making it an ideal houseplant. The plant does well in moderate to bright indirect light, but can also grow in darker conditions. As the plant originates from humid locations, the soil in which it is planted should be constantly moist but not waterlogged. Dehydration can result in brown frond tips, indicating that the plant needs more water. Regular misting can help maintain the ideal humidity levels for the Nephrolepis biserrata 'Macho'.
