DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Chamaerops humilis, better known as the European fan palm, has its roots in the Mediterranean region. This palm fern is generally found a lot in Italy, Spain, Portugal and other warm countries of Europe. It is a typical coastal plant that is found in the dunes and on rocky slopes.

Characteristics
The Chamaerops humilis is a versatile, low and bushy palm and is the only palm species native to the European continent. This plant has fan-shaped leaves that can have a blue-green to silver-green colour. The leaves are equipped with sharp thorns. It usually grows to a height of 1.5 to 2 meters, though some specimens can reach 4 meters. The plant bears small, yellow flowers that are followed by round, orange to brown fruits.

Care
Like all palm trees, the Chamaerops humilis enjoys sunlight and space. However, it requires little care and can withstand frost, making it perfect for outdoor use. It needs well-draining soil to support its water needs and to prevent the roots from drowning. Although it is a reasonably drought-resistant plant, it benefits from regular watering during the growing stage. The plant also has a high tolerance for salt, making this palm ideal for coastal plantations.
