Origin
Bombax ellipticum, also known as the 'Elephant's Foot,' originates from Guatemala in Central America. It naturally grows in both tropical and subtropical areas and thrives particularly in warm, humid climates.
Characteristics
The Bombax ellipticum is an unusual succulent with a thick, hollow trunk reminiscent of an elephant's foot. It has dark green, elliptical leaves that grow in bunches at the top of the trunk and bright yellow flowers that bloom in late winter or early spring. The plant can reach a height of 2 to 4 meters and a width of 1 to 2 meters.
Care
Caring for the Bombax ellipticum requires well-drained soil and sufficient sunlight. Watering should be limited, with a general rule of more water during the growing period and less water during the dormant period. Although the plant can withstand a wide range of temperatures, it needs to be protected from frost. It is not necessary to regularly fertilise the Bombax ellipticum, but an annual fertilisation in the spring can promote health and growth.
