Origin
The Echinocactus ingens, also known as the Big Barrel Cactus, originates from Northern Mexico and Southern Texas. This species naturally grows on calcareous and sandy slopes, where it is exposed to full sun and extreme temperatures.

Characteristics
The Echinocactus ingens is a slow-growing cactus species, known for its barrel-shaped form. The mature plant can reach a height of 3 meters and a width of 1.5 meters. The stem is green in color and studded with numerous spike-shaped thorns that grow from branched ribs. The flowers are yellowish in colour and typically bloom in late spring and early summer.

Care
The Echinocactus ingens requires minimal maintenance and is excellently adapted to dry conditions. The plant should be planted in well-draining soil to prevent root rot and watered every 2-4 weeks, depending on the season. Although this species tolerates high temperatures, it should be protected from temperatures below freezing during winter. Direct sunlight is optimal for growth, but the plant can also tolerate light shade.
