Origin
The Ficus elastica 'Belize', also known as the rubber plant, has its origin in India and Southeast Asia. The tree was introduced to other parts of the world, such as the tropical regions of America, due to its visually attractive and functional latex extraction potential.

Characteristics
Specific characteristics of the Ficus elastica 'Belize' include its attractive, glossy leaves that are often pink or reddish at young stages. Mature leaves have a dark green colour. The rubber plant can reach heights of 30 to 40 meters in the wild, but remains considerably smaller when cultivated domestically. The plant contains a milky white latex, which can leach out if the leaves or stems are damaged.

Care
When caring for the Ficus elastica 'Belize', it is important to consider the light requirements, the preference for high humidity, and the need for moderate watering. The plant likes indirect sunlight and should ideally be placed in bright, but filtered light. To keep the humidity high, the plant can be regularly sprayed with water. Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry out in between waterings to prevent root rot.
