The Ficus grows mainly in the tropical regions of Asia, Africa and South America, but can also be found in other parts of the world such as Australia and the Mediterranean. The Ficus microcarpa Compacta is a Ficus like any other, except that it is grown primarily as a bonsai tree. The bonsai originates from Japan and literally means ‘tree in a pot’.
