Origin
The Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida', also known as the Indian rubber tree, originates from the subtropical regions of India, Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. It is part of the Moraceae family of plants which comprises approximately 900 species. Traditionally, this tree has been valued for its ornamental appeal and its ability to survive in extreme conditions, such as urban areas with poor air quality.

Characteristics
The Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida' is an evergreen tree or shrub with a dense, round crown. The leaves are shiny dark green, elliptical to broadly egg-shaped and usually rounded at the base. Mature trees can reach a height of 15 to 20 metres, but indoors they are often limited to a size of one to two metres. The fruits of this plant are yellow-green in colour and spherical, but are rarely produced in cultivation conditions.

Care
Caring for the Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida' requires well-drained soil and ample sunlight. However, it can also grow in partial shade. This species tolerates drought and low nutrients well, but responds positively to regular fertilisation. Pruning can be carried out to maintain the desired shape and size, as the tree easily adapts to tight spaces and limited soil volumes. It's important to keep the soil moderately moist, but overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot.
