Origin
The Philodendron scandens, also known as the Heartleaf Philodendron, originates from Central and South America. It grows wild in these regions' tropical rainforests, often as an epiphyte on other trees.
Characteristics
The characteristics of the Philodendron scandens are its heart-shaped, shiny leaves that are dark green in colour. The plant has long, climbing stems to which the leaves grow alternately. An adult Philodendron scandens can reach a length of three metres, but often remains smaller when kept in a pot.
Care
In terms of care, the Philodendron scandens is relatively easy. The plant prefers a bright spot, but also thrives in shade. Watering is needed when the top layer of potting soil feels dry and too much water can lead to root rot. The plant doesn't need specific fertilisation and can be kept at room temperature all year round.
