DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Veitchia (Adonidia) merrillii, also known as the Christmas Palm, has its origin in the Philippines and Malaysia. In these tropical areas, the plant grows in the wild and contributes to local biodiversity. Currently, the plant is globally known and is mainly used as an ornamental plant, both indoors and outdoors.

Characteristics
The Veitchia merrillii has a slender trunk that can reach a height of about 15 metres. Feathered leaves grow on this, which have small, pointed segments at the end of each leaf. Moreover, this species of palm has striking red fruit that often ripens around Christmas time, hence the name Christmas Palm. It is a fast-growing plant that adapts well to different weather conditions.

Care
The Veitchia merrillii needs a lot of sun, but also thrives well in semi-shade. It is important to keep the soil well-drained; excessive water build-up can cause root rot. For optimal growth, it is advisable to fertilise the palm with a high-quality palm fertiliser. Although the palm is frost-resistant, it is recommended to protect the plant against temperatures below freezing point.
