Origin
The Veitchia (Adonidia) merrillii, also known as the Christmas palms, originates from the Philippines and Malaysia. In these tropical regions, the palm naturally grows to impressive heights. The palm was named after the American botanist Elmer Drew Merrill.

Characteristics
The Veitchia merrillii is characterised by its elegant appearance and streamlined growth. The tree can grow to a height of up to 10 metres and has attractive, glossy leaves. In summer, it produces abundantly elegant white flowers which then give way to bright red fruits in autumn and winter. These fruits are oval and approximately 1 inch in diameter.

Care
The Veitchia merrillii requires a warm, humid environment to thrive. The plant needs plenty of light, but not direct sunlight, so a spot in the partial shade is recommended. Regular fertilisation and watering keep the soil nutritious and moist, without causing waterlogging. Additionally, the palm requires well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
