Origin
The Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano' is a species of palm that hails from the western part of the Mediterranean. In particular, this type of palm is abundant in the Aeolian Islands located north of Sicily. It is the only palm native to Europe.

Characteristics
The Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano', also known as the dwarf palm or European fan palm, is a compact, slow-growing palm that doesn't typically exceed 1.5 metres in height. The palm has fan-shaped, deeply incised green leaves, and can develop both single and multiple trunks. This palm is very hardy and can survive temperatures down to -12 degrees Celsius. It also produces inconspicuous yellow flowers that later in the year become black fruit.

Care
Care for the Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano' requires some attention. The palm thrives best in a well-lit location with some morning or evening sun. It is important to water the plant well, but it should never be left standing in water, as this can cause root rot. The palm grows best in a well-drained soil. In case of strong growth, the palm can be fertilised every two weeks during the growing season with palm fertiliser.
