Origin
The Citrus bergamia 'Bergamot' primarily hails from Southeast Asia but is now commonly grown in Italy, notably in the Calabria region. This region is commonly regarded as the cradle of traditional bergamot cultivation. It is also known as Bergamot orange.

Characteristics
Citrus bergamia, better known as bergamot, is a small tree that can reach a height of about 4 meters. The plant bears small, oval fruits that resemble miniature oranges. The distinction is in the colour: the Bergamot orange turns yellow when ripe. The leaf is leathery and dark green. The plant blooms with white flowers that emit a strong citrus scent.

Care
The Bergamot needs ample space to grow and thrives in a sunny, warm spot. Ideally in an area where it does not freeze in the winter. The plant also requires well-draining soil to prevent the roots from standing in water. It needs regular watering, but avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. Lastly, the fruits should be harvested when they are yellow and soft to the touch.
