DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Citrus sinensis 'Orange', also known as the orange tree, originates from Southeast Asia. It is an ancient species that emerged between 2500 and 8000 years ago as a crossbreed between the mandarin and the pomelo. The tree was introduced to Europe by Portuguese explorers in the 16th century.

Characteristics
The Citrus sinensis 'Orange' is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 10 metres high. The leaves are dark green, glossy and elliptical to egg-shaped. The tree produces fragrant white flowers from which round, juicy orange fruits emerge. These fruits, called oranges, contain lots of vitamin C and can be consumed both raw and in preparations.

Care
For healthy growth, the Citrus sinensis 'Orange' requires a sunny position, preferably protected against cold wind. The soil needs to be well-draining and regular watering is necessary, especially in dry periods. Degradation of the soil should be prevented by fertilising annually with a fertiliser suitable for citrus trees. Pruning is not usually necessary, unless the tree gets too big or for aesthetic reasons.
