Origin
The Ilex crenata 'Kinme', also known as the Japanese holly, is an evergreen shrub originally from East Asia. It primarily found in Japan, Korea and parts of China. Traditionally, it has been a popular plant in Japanese gardens and bonsai culture.

Characteristics
The Ilex crenata 'Kinme' is characterised by its dark green, finely drawn leaves and compact growth. This makes it very suitable for creating dense hedges or as a solitary shrub. In the spring, the plant gets white, inconspicuous flowers, followed by black berries in the autumn. The shrub can reach a height of about 80 to 100 centimetres.

Care
The Ilex crenata 'Kinme' prefers a spot in full sun or partial shade. It grows best in well-draining, fertile soil. This plant is frost resistant and can be placed both in pots and in the open ground. It is recommended to prune the shrub once a year to maintain or refine its shape. Although it is well resistant to drought, regular watering during dry periods can promote growth.
