Origin
The Thuja occidentalis 'Tiny Tim', also known as the Western Arborvitae 'Tiny Tim', originates from North America. Here, the plant would grow in wet forests, on the rocky grounds of mountainous areas, and frequently within city boundaries as a decorative garden and hedge plant.
Characteristics
The Thuja occidentalis 'Tiny Tim' is a dwarf variant of the Thuja occidentalis. The plant is an evergreen shrub that can reach a height of approximately 50 centimetres and can grow to around 75 centimetres wide. 'Tiny Tim' distinguishes itself with its compact, slow-growing, globular shape and dark green colour. The needles stay green throughout the year which makes this shrub an attractive choice for year-round colour in the garden.
Care
The Thuja occidentalis 'Tiny Tim' requires little from its location and performs best in a sunny to semi-shaded spot with a well-draining, fertile soil. The plant is hardy but may require protection during heavy frost. It is advisable to slightly trim this shrub in spring to promote compact growth. Extra water needs to be given during dry periods.
