Origin
The Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Brasil mix, also known as the Rainbow Cactus, originates from the arid regions of Paraguay. It is a species belonging to the Gymnocalycium genus, which comprises over 120 cactus species.
Characteristics
This species is distinguished by its variety of colours, differing from most cacti which are predominantly green. The Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Brasil mix reaches an average height of about 5 to 10 centimetres and has a slow growth rate. It occasionally blooms after a few years with light flowers that beautifully contrast against the multicoloured trunk.
Care
The care for the Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Brasil mix is similar to that of other cacti. As it comes from a dry climate, it requires minimal watering. Overwatering should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. The plant prefers a location with plentiful light, although direct sunlight in the height of summer should be avoided. In winter, the plant enters a resting period and watering should be minimised. It is also important to plant it in well-drained soil to prevent water logging.
