Origin
The Ludisia Discolor XL is traditionally a resident of the tropical forests in Southeast Asia. Known for growing in the shady understorey of these forests, this plant is capable of surviving in relatively low light conditions. It is part of the orchid family, also known as Orchidaceae.
Characteristics
As an orchid, the Ludisia Discolor XL is unique in its kind. With dark red to almost black, velvet-like leaves, it makes a striking appearance. It carries small white flowers that provide a striking contrast with the dark leaf colour. The plant can reach a height of about 30 centimetres, making it a medium-sized house plant.
Care
The Ludisia Discolor XL has relatively simple care requirements. It thrives well in indirect light and requires an average to high humidity. In addition, it is important to water this plant regularly, but prevent the soil from becoming saturated, as this can cause root rot. Finally, feed the plant with a general liquid plant food every month during the growing season.
