Origin
The Ficus benjamina Golden King, also known as the weeping fig, has its origin in Southeast Asia and Australia. It is part of the Moraceae family, which comprises over 800 species of tropical and subtropical plants. The plant has been spread all over the world by European explorers.
Characteristics
The Ficus benjamina Golden King is a popular houseplant known for its striking yellow and green speckled leaves. This houseplant can grow to a height of up to 30 metres in its natural habitat, but in a pot it stays significantly smaller. The plant develops aerial roots, and has a quick growth rate. Although the Golden King variety blooms less than other Ficus species, it still produces small inconspicuous flowers.
Care
Caring for the Ficus benjamina Golden King requires a certain level of attention. The plant needs a bright spot but does not like to be in full sun. Too much direct sunlight can cause leaf scorch. The ideal temperature for this plant is between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. It is important to water the Ficus benjamina regularly, but too much water can cause root rot. During the growing season in spring and summer, it is also recommended to fertilise the plant regularly.
