Origin
Citrus reticulata 'Mandarino', commonly known as the mandarin, originally comes from China. The mandarin was first cultivated there thousands of years ago and has since spread all over the world. In the 19th century, the mandarin trees reached Europe and North America.

Characteristics
The mandarin tree belongs to the Rutaceae family. It is a small to medium-sized, evergreen fruit tree that can reach a height of 6 to 7 meters. The leaves are dark green, elongated and shiny. In spring and summer, the tree produces white, fragrant flowers. The fruits start green and slowly turn into a bright orange color as they ripen. The skin of the fruit is very easy to remove and the inside is sweet to slightly sour in taste.

Care
The mandarin tree requires a sunny, warm growing location and is not frost resistant. It is important to provide the tree with a well-drained soil to prevent root rot. The tree needs regular watering but should not be overwatered. It is also recommended to use a citrus fertiliser during the growth period. The tree is best pruned in late winter or early spring, with dead or crossing branches being removed to promote good air circulation.
