Characteristics
The Polygala myrtifolia, also known as the Myrtle-leaved Milkwort, is an evergreen shrub that can reach up to one and a half to two meters high in full glory. The leaves of the Polygala have an oval shape and are dark green in colour. This plant stands out for the numerous purple-blue flowers it produces, which bloom almost all year round, providing a continuous colourful appearance.
Care
For optimal growth and flowering, the Polygala myrtifolia needs a light location, preferably in full sun. The plant thrives best in a well-draining soil and does not have special requirements for the soil type. It generally handles drought well, but it is advised to water regularly during the summer months. Pruning of the Polygala myrtifolia can take place in the spring, but is not necessary. The plant is moderately hardy in winter and in colder climates it is advisable to provide winter protection.
